SEATAC

The feature wall at Seatac was conceived as a first of its kind double curved cable net structure. Working with Fentress Architects the design of tha wall was crafted and engineered to as a high transparency window to the world of aviation.

The geometry development required structural form finding to be balanced with the geometric aesthetic of the architectural vision. The forces in the cables had to be carefully dialed in to balance wind loads, seismic movements and the ability of the building structure to support the tensioned cables. The cable net spanned from floor to roof truss and from column to column forcing a tennis racket of sorts. The two opposing directional cables giving each other dimensional stability.

The glass itself spanning between the crossing points of the cables is point supported drill insulated units with a high performance coating to address heat gain and glare concerns.
