51 Louisiana Avenue

The 51 L Avenue project in Washington DC consists of a brand new office building that added to the campus of the Jones Day offices and created a new entry wall and entry courtyard to tie the three building together. The New building and skylight system could not impart any loading to the existing historic 1935 and 1953 buildings so an entirely new structure was created to form a new core the connect the three buildings.

The front facade was cleverly cantilevered off the new building via a horizontal mast that supported the vertical lites of glass. The roof of the atrium was also an innovative cassette glazing system that allowed easy and fast installation on a difficult and tight site.
